Blogger Azamat Sarsenbayev has published a video filmed near a solid household waste landfill in the Munaylinsky district of the Mangystau region, showing a camel wandering among scattered rubbish in search of food. The footage also shows the scale of pollution in the surrounding area from above.
WHAT THE FOOTAGE SHOWS
According to Lada.kz, the video was recorded on 20 April next to an active solid household waste (SHW) landfill. The video shows an animal among bags, paper and other household waste scattered across the steppe terrain.
"This video clearly demonstrates the problem of environmental pollution and irresponsible attitude towards nature. In the footage, I wanted to show that the situation in suburban areas differs significantly from that in the city and looks completely different," said Azamat Sarsenbayev.
WHAT THE DEPARTMENT SAID
According to the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Regulation of the Mangystau region, the site in the video is an active SHW landfill, where waste disposal is carried out in accordance with established standards.
The department explained that the appearance of light waste fractions on the surrounding area may occur due to technological and natural factors. On 18 April, a scheduled sanitary clean-up was carried out at and near the landfill as part of a community work day.
However, on 20 April, a fire broke out near the landfill. During its extinguishing, and due to increased wind, light waste — film, paper and other materials — was scattered beyond the main storage area.
WHAT MEASURES ARE BEING TAKEN NOW
Operational work for a full clean-up is underway at the landfill and adjacent areas. Specialised services and equipment have been deployed for this purpose.
The department also reported that after the work is completed, they plan to present a photo report on the elimination of the consequences and bringing the area into proper condition.
