In Almaty at the Makataeva — Nazarbaeva stop, the glass of the shelter fell on a girl who was sitting waiting for a bus. Aiym was not injured, however the shards damaged her jacket. After the victim's remark, the city akimat apologised to her and reported that the circumstances of the incident would be investigated.
HOW THE INCIDENT HAPPENED
As reported by the Telegram channel «HALYQSTAN», the incident occurred on 4 November at around 13:50 at the stop at the intersection of Makataeva and Nazarbaeva streets.
According to Aiym, she was sitting in the shelter waiting for a bus when the glass suddenly fell on her. The girl noted that serious consequences were avoided thanks to her outer clothing, however the shards left damage on her jacket.
The victim also expressed concern about the safety of the stop, drawing attention to the fact that children and other passengers could have been nearby.
WHAT THE AKIMAT INITIALLY RESPONDED
In its first response, the Almaty akimat reported that it had contacted the investor company RTS. According to the company, the damaged glass will be replaced, and specialists will check the possible causes of its destruction.
The authority also promised to provide a photo report after the completion of the work. The implementation of these measures, as reported by the akimat, is under control.
However, Aiym drew attention to the fact that in the initial response the officials spoke about repairing the shelter, but did not inquire about her wellbeing.
WHY THE GLASS COULD HAVE SHATTERED
After the girl's remark, the akimat apologised to her and explained the design features of the stop.
According to the authority, the shelter is fitted with tempered glass. When it breaks, it shatters into small fragments, which helps avoid deep cuts.
The akimat also reported that due to frequent mechanical impacts and vandalism, hidden micro-cracks may form in the glass. Over time, they can lead to sudden destruction of the material.
WHAT SPECIALISTS ARE CHECKING
Specialists are currently studying CCTV footage and checking the fastenings of the glass structures. They are to establish whether the destruction was related to the condition of the shelter or to external impact.
The final causes of the incident have not yet been established.
