Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov criticised the pace of modernisation at CHPP-3 in Almaty and instructed the management of Samruk-Energy to complete the work by the end of 2026. He stated that the situation at the facility is unsatisfactory and warned that the issue of personal responsibility would be considered if deadlines are missed.
WHAT INSTRUCTIONS DID THE PRIME MINISTER GIVE
Olzhas Bektenov emphasised that to fulfil the tasks set by the President for further industrialisation and digitalisation of the country, new generating capacities must be introduced. In this regard, the Ministry of Energy and the Samruk-Kazyna Fund have been instructed to ensure the implementation of key power generation projects within the established deadlines.
The Prime Minister also instructed to step up efforts to attract private investment in coal processing projects and expand support measures for potential investors. According to him, economic development requires an increase in energy capacity to meet the growing needs of infrastructure.
WHAT WAS SAID ABOUT THE MODERNISATION OF CHPP-3
Olzhas Bektenov reminded of the personal responsibility of the heads of the Ministry of Energy and the Samruk-Kazyna Fund for the timely commissioning of facilities at Almaty Power Plants, as well as the combined-cycle gas turbine unit in the Turkestan Region.
Separately, the Prime Minister addressed the head of Samruk-Energy, Kairat Maksutov, noting that the Minister of Energy inspected CHPP-2 and CHPP-3 in Almaty last week. According to the head of the Government, the situation at CHPP-3 is unsatisfactory and the pace of work is slow.
Olzhas Bektenov instructed to complete the modernisation of CHPP-3 by the end of this year, warning that otherwise the issue of the company head's personal responsibility would be considered. He also demanded that the progress of the work be monitored on a daily basis.
WHAT TASKS HAVE BEEN SET IN THE OIL AND GAS SECTOR
To achieve the planned oil and gas production targets, the Ministry of Energy has been instructed to hold negotiations with all subsoil users and prepare a specific plan for further action.
