Expensive property in London has been found to be registered in the names of the nephews of former Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin — Ernar and Alibek Mamin. The properties in question are two flats in the prestigious Bayswater area with a total value of £15.7 million, which at the current exchange rate amounts to more than 10.4 billion tenge.
WHERE THE FLATS ARE LOCATED
According to the Telegram channel 'Exit to the Sea', both flats are located in the Bayswater area, close to Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. This area is considered prestigious and popular among wealthy individuals from former Soviet Union countries.
According to investigative reports, the Mamin family's property is situated in the historic residential complex Lancaster Gate.
The first flat in this complex was purchased in 2014. At that time, Askar Mamin was heading the national company 'Kazakhstan Temir Zholy' (KTZ). The four-bedroom apartment cost Marat Mamin £8.7 million.
In December 2022, ownership of this duplex flat was transferred to his younger son Alibek Mamin. However, the documents stipulate that any transactions involving the property — sale or rental — are only possible with the signature of Marat Mamin.
SECOND FLAT IN THE SAME COMPLEX
A year earlier, Marat Mamin purchased a neighbouring flat in the same building for £7 million. It was registered in the name of his older son Ernar Mamin.
At that time, both sons were already living in London and trying to engage in entrepreneurial activities. According to data from registration databases, the companies they set up were later liquidated. The reasons for the closure of the firms are not specified in the materials.
CITIZENSHIP AND ASSETS OF THE FAMILY
According to data from leaked databases, the entire family of Marat Mamin — himself, his wife Gulmira, and their two sons — obtained British citizenship. At the same time, the investigation claims they renounced their Kazakhstani citizenship.
In Kazakhstan, the family's business was linked to commercial property and the entertainment industry. According to the investigative project of journalist Dmitry Shishkin, Ernar Mamin owned several companies which, based on tax payments, had a notable turnover.
Marat Mamin himself also managed the 'Eurasia' shopping centre in Astana.
FAMILY PROPERTY IN THE USA AND UAE
In addition to the flats in London, Marat Mamin's family owns property in other countries as well.
In the USA, a mansion in the suburbs of Orlando is registered in his and his wife's names. The house sits on a plot of about 20 acres and includes six bedrooms, six bathrooms, a living room, and an outdoor swimming pool.
It is also reported that Marat Mamin previously purchased a house with an ocean view in Florida for $8.2 million, but later sold it at a discount, losing around $2 million on the deal.
In the suburbs of Miami, he also owns an apartment measuring 278 m² in the Aventura Marina Two residential complex.
Furthermore, journalists discovered that Marat Mamin owns a flat in Dubai in the Al Bateen Residences complex, valued at over $1 million.
PUBLIC ACTIVITIES OF ASKAR MAMIN
The former prime minister himself, Askar Mamin, according to the investigation, does not appear among the owners of this overseas property.
After the January events of 2022, he stepped back from active political activity and became the head of the Kazakhstan Ice Hockey Federation.
No data regarding any overseas property belonging to him is presented in the investigation materials.
