We are talking about a penthouse in a building at the address Wall Street 55, which the late Bolat Nazarbayev purchased in 2007. It is noted that the decision to sell was made during the lifetime of the former president's brother.
According to the Telegram channel "Access to the Sea", the apartment, with an area of 164 m², featuring two bedrooms, a kitchen-diner, three bathrooms and a terrace, cost Nazarbayev $2.7 million.
It is reported that the property was initially registered in the name of his stepson from his ex-wife Maira Kurmangaliyeva – Daniyar Kesikbayev.
During the divorce proceedings, Kurmangaliyeva demanded half of her ex-husband's assets through various courts, including the apartment in the USA.
It is reported that at the same time, her son was trying to sell this penthouse, but after legal disputes, the former president's brother retained his right to the property.
"As a result, in that same year of 2011, Kurmangaliyeva was placed on the wanted list in Kazakhstan, accused of fraud and kidnapping. In turn, Bolat Nazarbayev went to court in New York, accusing his stepson and ex-wife of stealing tens of millions of dollars from him. The legal proceedings between Bolat and Maira lasted for several years.", the message states.
In the end, Bolat Nazarbayev left Kurmangaliyeva a mansion in New Jersey worth $20 million. In exchange, she dropped her claims to the apartments in Miami and New York.
It has become known that in 2016, Nazarbayev re-registered the penthouse in the name of his assistant Batyrzhan Akhmetov, who headed his debt collection agency and a number of small firms.
Recall that in May, court cases began in Almaty regarding the assets of Bolat Nazarbayev. It has become known that at one time he fought a legal battle for the right to own the land under the BNC Plaza business centre. The plaintiff was the sister of Maira Kurmangaliyeva – Gulzhamal.
