The social network Facebook has suspended access to the account of Diana Okremova, director of the public foundation "Legal Media Centre", following a post about legal proceedings with the Ministry of Culture and Information. The platform cited breach of third-party copyright and violation of its user agreement on intellectual property as the formal grounds.
HOW THE BLOCKING HAPPENED
The incident was reported by the head of the legal service at Media Qoldau, Gulmira Birzhanova. According to her, access to Okremova's account was suspended and the post was removed, as reported by Total.kz.
Diana Okremova herself linked the blocking to the post about the court case. On Instagram, she stated that her account had been blocked over an intellectual property violation, pointing to the post about the lawsuit against the Ministry of Culture and Information.
WHAT COURT CASE IS IN QUESTION
Earlier, the public foundation "Legal Media Centre" filed a lawsuit against the state body concerning access to information about the funding of private media outlets from the state budget.
Okremova sought to have the ministry's refusal of 23 April 2026 to provide details of the amount of budget funds allocated as grants to private media outlets declared unlawful. The plaintiff also demanded that the ministry be ordered to provide the requested information in full, and that its classification of this data as restricted service information be deemed unjustified.
The defendant disagreed with the claims. The Ministry stated that the requested information falls under restricted-access data and asked for the lawsuit to be dismissed.

The post in question was published by Diana Okremova on 12 July 2026. In it, she reported the upcoming court hearing regarding the lawsuit against the Ministry of Culture and gave the hearing date — 13 July 2026.
Representatives of the media community link the mass complaints against the account to an attempt to restrict publicity around the court proceedings.
WHAT MEDIA COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVES SAY
Gulmira Birzhanova called the blocking a "disgraceful reaction" and warned of the danger of restricting the information space. She also expressed hope that Okremova's account would be restored.
Representatives of Media Qoldau intend to appeal the platform's decision. According to the information provided, human rights defenders have 180 days to lodge the appeal.
