Accident at the "Ozenmunaigas" facility in Zhanaozen led to a pipeline rupture

27 April, a pipeline defect occurred at marine pumping station No. 4 in Zhanaozen, which belongs to the oil treatment and production services department of Ozenmunaigaz JSC. As a result of the damage, water was released from the pipe. No casualties were reported, and the incident has been resolved.

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE FACILITY

According to the Department of Ecology of the Mangystau Region, the defect occurred on the outlet pipeline with a diameter of 1020 mm. A hole formed at the point of damage, through which water began to gush, reports Lada.kz.

According to information from Ozenmunaigaz, a drop in seawater pressure was recorded around 15:15 in the area of pumping station NSM-4. Later, at a distance of 3.8 km from the station, near the GU-38 turn, a rupture occurred on the upper part of the steel pipeline, accompanied by a water release.

The subsoil user reported the incident at 18:24 the same day.

WHAT MEASURES THE COMPANY TOOK

Specialists arrived promptly at the scene. The water supply was switched to a backup line.

Emergency crews and specialised equipment were deployed to eliminate the consequences, and repair work was carried out. The system is currently operating normally.

ARE THE CAUSES OF THE ACCIDENT KNOWN

At the time of publication, the cause of the pipeline defect had not been determined.

No one was injured as a result of the incident. The company also noted that the pipeline contained clean seawater, so no environmental damage has been recorded.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION INSPECTION

As reported by the Department of Ecology, specialists from the laboratory and analytical control department are monitoring the state of the environment. The results of the inspections will be announced additionally after the studies are completed.
