In Taraz, residents of the villages of Bektobe and Kyzylsharyk, which were annexed to the city, are demanding an audit of the contractor that was supposed to have brought running water to their homes back in April 2025.
According to the TV channel KTK, this deadline was later postponed to August. Local residents note that the technical condition of the future water supply system is already causing concern. They say hoses are sticking out of the ground and wells with fragile covers are already beginning to crumble.
It is also noted that for 20 years now, people have been forced to use communal standpipes, despite repeated promises from the authorities.
As reported by the head of the Housing and Utilities Department of the Zhambyl District Akimat, Maksat Usembayev, the work to provide the water supply is 97% complete.
"At the moment, we are carrying out work to accept the water supply in the villages of Bektobe and Kyzylsharyk. The remaining funding will be fully released this month," he stated.
According to the officials' forecast, water should appear in residents' homes by the end of summer 2025. Specialists also report that the contractor is obliged to fix any possible defects within five years under the warranty agreement.
However, public reports sent to the capital's deputies have already stated that the project is complete. This has caused sharp discontent among residents, who claim that, in practice, nobody is receiving water.
"Everything they say is a complete lie! You can see for yourself: in no village, be it Bektobe or Kyzylsharyk, is a single person getting water," said Zytula Rayymberdiyev, a resident of one of the villages.
Officials at the district akimat acknowledge that defects have been identified in some areas, preventing the facility from being accepted into operation. According to Usembayev, these will be rectified shortly.
Earlier, it was reported that residents of the village of Kemertogan, located not far from Almaty, are complaining about interruptions to their water supply. According to them, the central system is heavily worn out and cannot cope with the increased demand, and some streets receive no water at all.
