In the Bayterek District of the West Kazakhstan Region, the construction of a road leading to the villages of Polivnoye and Karazhar has been halted. Residents claim that the contractor began delivering crushed stone and started work as early as spring, but by July, construction had completely stopped. Since then, the site has remained untouched.
According to Kazinform News Agency, the road is currently impassable: buses do not run, children cannot get to school, and sharp gravel damages car tyres.
The district akimat confirmed that the project for major repairs of the road, spanning 7.3 km, was started by the contractor Anush Kuryls LLP, but funding has not yet been allocated.
"Despite this, the contractor — Anush Kuryls LLP — began work on laying the foundation of the future road. At present, a budget request for funding has been resubmitted," the statement reads.
For context, earlier the Almaty police identified around 4,000 defects in road surfaces and infrastructure elements during inspections of the street and road network.
