The rector of the M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, Kairat Nurmanbetov, has been detained on suspicion of receiving a bribe of around 28 million tenge.

According to Kursiv.media, citing the Department of Economic Investigations, his two deputies have also been arrested. The case is related to public procurement.

It is noted that information about the detention of Nurmanbetov and his two subordinates was previously published by ORDA.

"The men are suspected of receiving a bribe of 28 million tenge. Nurmanbetov and his deputies received the money from an employee of a company that won a tender to supply furniture and equipment to the university. Desks, chairs and other new furniture were intended to equip the educational institution after renovation," the statement said.

Recall that in May, Asset Kaliyev, Chairman of the Board and Rector of the NJSC "Marat Ospanov West Kazakhstan Medical University", was detained. He is suspected of receiving a bribe of 12 million tenge.
