In Astana, a court has examined a case concerning a conflict between police officers that occurred during an official raid. The deputy head of the local police service of the "Yesil" district, Ali Abetayev, was found guilty of assaulting his own superior. By court decision, the officer received a restriction of freedom, was stripped of his rank, and paid compensation to the victim.
HOW THE CONFLICT BETWEEN POLICE OFFICERS OCCURRED
As reported by Informburo.kz citing the judicial office, the incident took place on 4 July 2025 during a night-time inspection of establishments. Police officers were conducting a raid on restaurants, checking compliance with the ban on hookah smoking.
The head of the local police service of the "Yesil" district, together with subordinates, identified violations in several establishments. At this time, Ali Abetayev called his boss several times, but he was unable to answer due to a phone malfunction.
Later, Abetayev asked the boss to come to one of the restaurants, explaining it was necessary to draw up administrative reports.
WHAT HAPPENED AT THE MEETING
When the police officers met near the restaurant, a conflict arose between them.
According to the court ruling, during the argument Abetayev punched his boss in the face, after which he landed several more blows. During the scuffle, the men fell between parked cars, where Abetayev applied a chokehold.
The victim sought medical assistance. The forensic examination recorded a wound on the forehead, a through-and-through wound on the lip, and a fracture of the nasal bones. The injuries were classified as minor harm to health.
WHAT PUNISHMENT THE COURT IMPOSED
The court found Ali Abetayev guilty of intentionally inflicting minor harm to health.
His sentence included:
- 1 year of restriction of freedom;
- 100 hours of community service;
- stripping of the special rank of police captain.
In addition, as part of mediation, Abetayev paid the victim 3 million tenge in compensation.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
