In the East Kazakhstan region, the deaths of eight head of cattle found in the village of Maraldy, Kurchum district, are being investigated. The first carcasses were discovered on 19 September, and then another case was identified on 20 September.
According to YK-news.kz, on the instruction of the akim of the East Kazakhstan region, Nurymbet Saktaganov, an operational group including specialists from the sanitary-epidemiological service, the department of ecology, and the veterinary department, travelled to the site.
Experts took samples of water, soil, and pathological material from the dead animals, which were sent to laboratories for comprehensive testing.
On 23 September, ecologists additionally took soil samples. Initial preventive measures — vaccination and disinfection of the area — have also been carried out.
According to the regional akimat, the final results of the environmental assessment will be ready by the end of the week, and the veterinary service's conclusion is expected by 4 October.
"For us, the most important thing is the health and safety of residents, as well as protecting the interests of agricultural holdings. Conclusions will be drawn and all necessary measures taken only on the basis of expert reports. Biosecurity measures have already been introduced, and issues of support for affected owners are being considered," said the akim of the East Kazakhstan region, Nurymbet Saktaganov.
Incidentally, Kazakhs on social media periodically raise the issue of rising beef prices. It has been reported that over 8 months, beef in the country rose in price by as much as 23%. In some cities, beef is already being sold for 7,100 tenge per kilogram.
