A number of sports officials have been brought to disciplinary account following an audit by the Supreme Audit Chamber (SAC) in organisations under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Auditors stated that budget funds were used inappropriately, accounting was conducted with violations, and there was weak control in state organisations.
According to the SAC press service, an audit carried out in the summer revealed violations affecting the country's sporting achievements.
On the instruction of the SAC, employees in the following were brought to disciplinary account:
- the committee for sports and physical culture;
- the RSEE "Directorate for Sports Development";
- the RSEE "Republican College of Sports";
- the RSI "Republican Specialised Boarding School-College of Olympic Reserve named after Khadzhimukan Munaitpasov";
- the RSEE "Almaty Olympic Training Centre";
- the RSEE "Republican School of Higher Sports Excellence in Winter Sports 'Alatau'".
At the same time, the SAC's analysis showed that the potential of more than 32,000 school teachers is not being used for further sports training in specialised educational institutions and organisations.
Now, by decision of the acting Minister of Tourism and Sports, specialised sports classes will begin to be opened in schools. They will be formed from children with clearly expressed sporting abilities.
Selection will be carried out by physical education teachers and coaches. It is expected that this measure will unite the educational and sports systems and increase the effectiveness of training reserve athletes.
In addition, on the instruction of the SAC, organisations under the Ministry of Sports have begun work to eliminate errors in accounting and reporting. The department states that this will strengthen transparency, establish personal accountability, and reduce the risk of inappropriate use of budget funds.
