The Tasotkel reservoir in the Zhambyl Region is in a critical state — the body of water has dried up, and along with it, crops in the Shu and Moyynkum districts are under threat.
According to the Telegram channel "HALYQSTAN", local farmers fear the loss of melon crops and alfalfa without irrigation water. They say this could lead to serious losses and complicate preparations for winter livestock feeding.
Environmentalists and non-governmental organisations have been warning about the catastrophic water shortage in the region for several years. It is noted that the majority of water resources come from Kyrgyzstan, which was recently visited on a working trip by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The delegation also included the Minister of Water Resources, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov. However, the question remains open as to what measures are being taken to address the water crisis and to inform farmers about potential risks.
The lack of an effective strategy for distributing water resources threatens not only the harvest and farmers' livelihoods, but also the country's food security, as the Zhambyl Region traditionally supplies many regions with vegetables and meat.
As a reminder, the founder of the FBRK and agricultural expert Kirill Pavlov has repeatedly raised the issue of water shortages in the Zhambyl Region on his Telegram channel. The posts noted that the drying up of water bodies, including the Tasotkel Reservoir, directly threatens the region's farmers.
