Seven servicemen from military unit No. 99116 in the Mangystau region have been admitted to a psychiatric hospital with signs of suicidal disorder. During examination, doctors recorded cuts to the veins on their arms.
According to the Telegram channel «HALYQSTAN», three remain under specialist observation, while the parents of the other four have taken them home after obtaining certificates of mental disorder.
Among those still in the specialist hospital is an 18-year-old private from Almaty, Sultan Shyntemirov. His mother, Laura Shyntemirova, believes her son was unjustifiably declared mentally ill.
She stated that during five months of service, Sultan attempted to take his own life twice because of hazing.
«I was told he was being taken for a check-up due to heart and kidney pain. In reality, he was sent to a psychiatric hospital,» the woman recounts.
According to her, her son complained of extortion, regular beatings, and that servicemen were forced to mix cement and work on a private construction site.
At the hospital itself, they claim that no serious mental illnesses have been identified among the soldiers, and they are mostly receiving psychological support.
The future of all seven servicemen will be decided by a military commission in Astana. Meanwhile, Laura Shyntemirova has sent an appeal to the military prosecutor’s office demanding a thorough investigation into what is happening in unit No. 99116.
UPD: Following the publication, the Ministry of Defence denied reports of suicide attempts by seven servicemen of military unit No. 99116 in the Mangystau region.
«The information spread in a number of publications about cases of suicidal behaviour among seven servicemen does not correspond to reality,» the department’s statement said.
According to the Ministry of Defence, three conscript servicemen have been hospitalised, in whom «demonstrative displays of suicidal tendencies» have been recorded. It is reported that there is no threat to their life or health, and they are receiving necessary treatment and medical supervision.
«Based on the results of the examinations, a decision will be made regarding their further military service,» the ministry clarified.
The department noted that such actions can sometimes be of a simulative nature with the aim of evading service. All circumstances are being analysed by relevant specialists.
Furthermore, it is noted that a check is being carried out by law enforcement agencies in accordance with legal requirements regarding reports of extortion, unlawful actions, and forced labour.
