A video filmed at the specialised school-lyceum-boarding school "Zhas Ulan" named after Shokan Ualikhanov in Semey is circulating on social media. The footage shows one of the senior students forcefully choking another pupil. The younger student tries to break free but cannot.
According to Cmn.kz, this is not the first such incident within the walls of this educational institution. The media has repeatedly reported cases of bullying and physical violence by senior pupils.
Despite successive scandals, the school's management, including the headteacher, continues to work with the same staff.
The education department of the Abai region confirmed the authenticity of the clip. They stated that the video was filmed in 2023. It is noted that the footage captures a graduate of the school from the class of 2025, from the 111th platoon.
"He explained that it was a friendly joke, ordinary horseplay between friends. At that time, the teaching staff were aware of the situation and conducted an educational talk with the children. Both graduates finished the lyceum in May 2025," the official comment states.
One of the participants in the video is now studying in Pavlodar, the other in Almaty. According to the department, the relationships between pupils are always under the control of the lyceum's management.
