In the Kurmangazy district of the Atyrau region, repairs have been unable to be completed since 2020 on the 43-kilometre highway connecting the district centre with the villages of Akkol, Gizat Alipov, Kigash and Dynghyzyl. The work remains unfinished, and according to contractors, the new road will only be put into operation in 2026.

According to 24.kz, contractors cite the rise in prices of building materials as the reason for the delay in construction. According to a representative of the contracting organisation, Nauyrzbek Sabyrov, work was completely halted in 2021.

"In 2021 we stopped work because material prices had risen. Because of this, we had to adjust the project. From 2024, we began levelling 40 kilometres of road and laid 17 kilometres of asphalt. We will hand over the facility by the end of 2026," he reported.

Meanwhile, road works are underway across the entire Atyrau region. As reported by the regional department of passenger transport and highways, 78 projects aimed at improving transport infrastructure are planned for this year. Before the onset of cold weather, the region intends to renew the asphalt surface on 260 kilometres of roads.

"We have allocated 59 billion tenge for 78 projects. Seven and a half billion of that is from the republican budget, and another 51 billion from the local budget. Currently, 78% of roads in the region have an asphalt surface. After the implementation of all projects, this indicator will reach 82%," stated the chief specialist of the department, Altynbek Beibitov.

As it has become known, the total length of highways in the region is about 6,500 kilometres. This year, medium-level repairs are also planned on the regional highway Atyrau – Inder. Furthermore, design and estimate documentation is being developed for the repair of 140 kilometres of roads heading towards the villages of Asan, Azgyr and Suiindik.
