The emergency operations centre reported that residents of private residential areas in Atyrau, located near the riverbank, were obstructing construction work.
According to the publication «Ak Zhayyk», residents of 29 houses located right next to the river are refusing permission to demolish their outbuildings. Local authorities claim this is necessary for dam reinforcement work.
As a result, the city administration decided to build a protective dam elsewhere.
«The residents of Khalelova Street fully agreed with this decision. They are currently building protective dams themselves. For the bank reinforcement work in the residential area, the administration will allocate the necessary construction materials and manpower», the emergency operations centre reported.
The question arises: could the city administration not have found an alternative solution from the very beginning? After all, there was clearly no urgent need to encroach on private property.
