The Anti-Corruption Agency has presented two new bills to the Mazhilis aimed at strengthening the fight against corruption. One of the key elements of the proposed changes is the creation of a public register of individuals convicted of serious corruption offences.

According to Kazinform, the First Deputy Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Ulan Sarkulov, stated that the amendments will affect three codes and five laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

"This is a preventive tool. Its main goal is to foster intolerance towards corruption in society through public condemnation", Sarkulov said.

According to reports, the register will include citizens based on a final conviction for serious and especially serious corruption offences. Removal from the list is provided for in two cases: upon an acquittal or after the criminal record is expunged.

It will be recalled that the introduction of a public register of corrupt individuals was reported as early as January last year. At that time, the Anti-Corruption Agency proposed criminalising any solicitation of a bribe, including a promise or hint of one. According to the developers, this will help shape an attitude towards bribes in society where even talking about them becomes unacceptable.
