In Aktobe, 20 false reports of acts of terrorism were registered in 2025. Pre-trial investigations were initiated into all cases under Article 273 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (“Knowingly false report of an act of terrorism”).
COURT PRACTICE
According to the Aktobe Region Prosecutor's Office, over the last four years, the region's courts have considered five criminal cases related to false reports of terrorism. In most instances, the accused received a sentence of imprisonment, and less frequently, a restriction of liberty.
EXAMPLE FROM COURT PRACTICE
For instance, in April 2023, Ageykin called 102 and reported an alleged bomb planted in the house where he lived. The report turned out to be false and led to criminal liability. Court No. 2 of Aktobe sentenced Ageykin to a restriction of liberty for a term of two years. When passing the sentence, the court took into account that he had no previous criminal record and had a minor child dependent on him.
PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE POSITION
The Aktobe Region Prosecutor's Office reminded that knowingly false reports of an act of terrorism constitute a serious criminal offence and entail strict criminal liability, regardless of the motives or age of the person committing them.
Article 273 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan provides for a penalty of a fine of up to 5,000 monthly calculation indices (21.6 million tenge), or a restriction of liberty for a term of up to five years, or imprisonment for the same term.
