President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has instructed the Prime Minister, the head of the Presidential Administration, the heads of all security agencies and regional governors (akims) to take measures to ensure the security of military and civilian facilities in connection with the escalating situation around Ukraine.
The Press Secretary of the President, Berik Uali, stated that the situation in the country is under the President's personal control.
"For our state, the main strategic goal is to preserve stability, peace, legality and order. Kazakhstan has repeatedly called for resolving the issue of ending hostilities between the two Slavic peoples through negotiations", the statement reads.
In turn, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held an operational meeting with the leadership of the ministries of defence, internal affairs, emergency situations, foreign affairs, health, transport, energy, industry and construction, national economy, and finance.
Minister of Defence Ruslan Zhaksylykov reported on the work being carried out to ensure the protection of strategic and infrastructural facilities. Bektenov listened to his report and set a number of tasks aimed at strengthening the actions of state bodies.
"Attention was paid to issues of preserving stability and public order, the safety of transport links, the operation of life-support facilities, etc. The leadership of the authorised structures has been instructed to keep the implementation of the President's instructions on ensuring security under special control and to report operational changes in the situation", the government reported.
