President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered his annual address to the people of Kazakhstan, in which he announced the need to establish a new department — the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.
According to the press service of Akorda, the Head of State noted the necessity of modernising the economy through large-scale digitalisation and the active implementation of artificial intelligence technologies.
In this regard, he emphasised the importance of the accelerated adoption of the Digital Code, which should define the key areas of digitalisation: the development of artificial intelligence, the platform economy, the use of big data, and other aspects.
According to Tokayev, Kazakhstan will need to restructure its system of state governance, enhancing its transparency, efficiency, and citizen orientation.
The President proposed creating the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development on the basis of the existing Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry (MDDIAI). In the President's view, it should be headed by a specialist holding the post of Deputy Prime Minister.
The government has been tasked with ensuring the total implementation of artificial intelligence to modernise all sectors of the economy.
"In order to increase Kazakhstan's competitiveness, we must reconsider our approaches to our work," Tokayev emphasised.
