On 17 May, a video recording by an unknown author appeared on social media, showing money being handed over to a police officer in Almaty.
According to the city's Anti-Corruption press service, the department has registered a pre-trial investigation into this matter.
"The Anti-Corruption Service promptly responded to the said publication and registered a pre-trial investigation against employees of the Almaty Police Department on the grounds of accepting a bribe to refrain from taking administrative measures against a foreign citizen", the statement reads.
