Police have identified 13 illegal slaughterhouses in Kazakhstan's major cities

In Astana, Almaty and Shymkent, 13 illegal slaughterhouses were discovered in 20 days.

According to Polisia.kz, more than 3,500 police officers and 400 specialists from the departments of agriculture and veterinary control took part in the operational activities. 

They inspected more than 54,000 livestock transport vehicles, 17,000 purchase points, as well as 28,500 peasant farms, grazing areas and farms.

The police established the involvement of 131 individuals in livestock theft and stopped the activities of 26 criminal groups

"At the same time, 135 cases of livestock theft were solved and more than 580 heads of farm animals were returned to their owners", said Kanat Nurmagambetov, head of the criminal police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

It also became known that in the Almaty region, two groups of livestock thieves were detained. One of them committed 11 crimes, stealing 16 head of cattle, the other — 9 crimes, stealing 103 head of small livestock.

In the Zhambyl region, a group of three livestock thieves was detained. They are accused of stealing 28 horses from free-range grazing.

In conclusion, the head of the department noted that in 2024 the level of livestock theft decreased by 26%.

Recall that earlier Astana police detained a man who organised the sale of meat unfit for human consumption. It was reported that the illegal production involved the processing and sale of carcasses of dead animals.
