A video is circulating on social media showing corrugated pipes, used during the reconstruction of its riverbed, floating along Almaty's Kargaly River.

According to Tengrinews.kz, the video sparked active discussion among users, who put forward various theories about the reasons for what was happening. The Almaty Akimat has commented on the situation.

According to city authorities, the reconstruction of certain sections of the Kargaly River channel, on the stretch from Zhandosov Street to Ryskulov Avenue, is being carried out by order of the Almaty Department of Ecology and Environment.

As part of the work, corrugated pipes with a diameter of 600 millimetres were installed along the riverbed for drainage and to carry out construction and installation activities.

Several days ago, due to a sharp rise in the river's water level, temporarily built dams were destroyed, as well as some of the installed pipes, which ended up in the riverbed.

The Akimat reported that the situation has now stabilised and is under constant monitoring. The contracting organisation has removed the damaged corrugated pipes from the riverbed.
