Information is circulating online about a new fraud scheme. Criminals are calling citizens and claiming to be employees of "Astana-REC" and "Astana Su Arnasy".
According to the Telegram channel "Astanovka98", they report an alleged mandatory replacement of meters and ask for an SMS code sent from number 1414 to be dictated.
After this, the fraudsters convince the victims that a loan is being taken out in their name, and under the pretext of "protecting" funds, they demand the following actions:
- withdraw all money from the account and transfer it to a so-called "reserve account of the National Bank";
- take out a loan and transfer the funds to a "safe account";
- withdraw money from a deposit and hand it over to alleged representatives of "special services" or "the bank".
It is noted that employees of official organisations never request SMS codes over the phone.
"These codes are confidential information — disclosing them can lead to the loss of funds and the leakage of personal data", the statement reads.
Recall that earlier, officers from the Almaty AFM department detained three foreigners, from whom six fraudulent SIM-box devices were discovered and seized during a search of a rented apartment.
