The environmental prosecutor's office of Almaty region has identified violations of sanitary and environmental legislation in the operation of epizootic safety facilities — special sites for the burial of agricultural animal carcasses.

According to the press service of the agency, there are 46 livestock burial sites in the region, which have been operating for many years without mandatory environmental permits and monitoring of soil and groundwater conditions.

In addition, the environmental prosecutor's office has identified violations of animal burial procedures, posing a threat to the ecosystem and public health.

"The lack of proper oversight and permitting documentation carries risks of environmental pollution, epidemics among wild and domestic animals, and could also lead to negative consequences for public health," the statement reads.

It has become known that all facilities are under the management of local executive bodies and the regional veterinary station.

As a result of the inspection, officials from the akimats of the Raiymbek, Kegen and Uygur districts, as well as the management of the regional veterinary station, were brought to administrative responsibility. Work is currently underway to eliminate the identified violations.

For context, in July, a quarantine was introduced in two villages of the Atbasar district of Akmola region due to an ongoing anthrax outbreak. The infection occurred as a result of livestock grazing near a livestock burial site.
