Ministry of Economy assured taxi operators of a favourable tax regime

The Ministry of National Economy has commented on taxi fleet statements regarding the impact of the fiscal and tax reform on their operations.

According to the ministry's press service, the new reform will not affect taxi drivers. A preferential tax regime is provided for them.

"This regime will be applied without tax payment: VAT and other taxes will not arise, the PIT (personal income tax) rate is zeroed. They will pay a single payment of 4%, which includes only pension contributions, social deductions, and medical insurance", the statement said.

The ministry noted that this regime can be used without registering as an individual entrepreneur. Additionally, taxi drivers can work directly with an internet platform operator (Yandex, etc.) without the mediation of taxi fleets.

At the same time, it became known that in 2024, about 15,000 taxi driver taxpayers (including those renting cars) used the simplified declaration regime. Of these, only 924 individuals exceeded an income of 15 million tenge

"That is, the threshold reduction with the obligation to pay VAT will affect only 6% of them. These are the large taxi fleets that must pay VAT," the department reported.

The ministry also explained that internet platform operators are VAT payers.

"At the same time, it is worth noting that prices in the taxi service market are formed based on market relations, depending on competition, demand, and supply," the conclusion states.

Recall that earlier some representatives of taxi fleets expressed concern that tax reforms could lead to the closure of their operations and bankruptcy.
