The publication Forbes Kazakhstan has presented an updated ranking of the country's 75 largest private companies, which includes nine newcomers.
According to Forbes.kz, 34 companies worsened their positions compared to last year, 21 improved their results, eight retained their places, and three returned to the ranking after a break.
This year, nine new companies have been included in the list. According to the compilers of the ranking, their appearance is due not only to the expansion of the list to 75 positions but also to the growing number of companies that, by scale, already match the previous top 50.
Among the new participants is the railway machinery manufacturer Railways Systems KZ (19th place), owned by the family of businessman Sergei Pavlinger (the Pavlinger family — No. 45 in the Forbes Kazakhstan ranking of the richest businessmen).
Also in the top 75 is the bus and commercial vehicle plant LLP «QazTehna» (36th place), whose majority owner is Andrei Lavrentiev (No. 12 in the ranking of Kazakhstan's richest businessmen).
Furthermore, the ranking saw the debut of the development company Mercury Properties, owned by spouses Timur and Dinara Kulibayev (both — No. 4 in the ranking of the richest businessmen), which took 43rd place. The oilfield services group Orbis Oilfield Services, owned by brothers Farrukh and Sukhrab Makhmudov (both — No. 27 in the ranking of the richest businessmen), is in 47th place.
Among other newcomers:
- manufacturer of battery equipment, LLP «Kainar-AKB» (56th place);
- construction company LLP «Otau-Stroy» (68th place);
- construction company LLP «AVC Production» (69th place);
- construction company LLP «Meliorator» (72nd place);
- iron ore mining enterprise LLP «Bapy Mining» (75th place) with a revenue of 37.19 billion tenge.
The leader in revenue growth last year was Integra Construction KZ (12th place), which increased its turnover by 118.44%. Next are «AgromashHolding KZ» (66th place) with revenue growth of 101.17% and Qazaq Bitum (51st place) — 96.28%.
The leader in net profit was KAZ Minerals Plc (1st place), which earned 604.3 billion tenge. Second place went to BI Group (6th place) — 118.1 billion tenge, and third to «Korporatsiya Kazakhmys» (2nd place) with a result of 63.6 billion tenge.
Among the largest taxpayers, KAZ Minerals Plc also took first place, having paid 461.07 billion tenge to the state; second was «Korporatsiya Kazakhmys» (205.56 billion tenge); and third was «Kazakhskaya motornaya kompaniya «Astana-Motors» (157.03 billion tenge).
It is noted that the ranking included companies operating in Kazakhstan in which citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan hold at least 50% of the capital, as well as companies whose owners changed their citizenship after establishing the business. Forbes Kazakhstan did not include financial organisations (banks, insurance, leasing and investment companies) in the list due to the specifics of their activities and differences in accounting practices.
