MP of the Mazhilis Murat Abenov accused the Supreme Audit Chamber (SAC), under the leadership of Alikhan Smailov, of covering up the embezzlement of 73 billion tenge at Nazarbayev University.
"Why is the Supreme Audit Chamber, under Smailov's leadership, concealing information about the embezzlement of 73 billion tenge at Nazarbayev University?", the Mazhilis member wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, the SAC is hiding the details of a previously conducted audit, preventing MPs from examining the reasons for the illegal spending of budget funds.
It is worth noting that in October 2023, while serving as Prime Minister, Alikhan Smailov chaired the Supreme Board of Trustees of Nazarbayev University, and in April 2024 he was appointed Chairman of the SAC.
For context, Mazhilis MP Marat Bashimov had initially called for the publication of the SAC's audit results for 2022-2024. According to him, the last audit report was published on the department's website on 11 August 2022.
