Mass scabies in cattle is being observed in the suburbs of Atyrau

In villages near Atyrau, there is widespread hair loss among cattle. Farmers attribute this to poor quality water from reservoirs that filled during the flood.

According to the Telegram channel “HALYQSTAN”, after a while the water in reservoirs cut off from canals went stagnant and became undrinkable.

Furthermore, villagers claim that animals do not have access to clean water due to high embankments that were prepared for potential floods in 2025.

Farmers say the cattle started losing hair back in December. They reported that growths appear on the cows' bodies, causing itching and flaking skin.

In response, the deputy head of the regional territorial inspectorate, Nurken Bayarov, said that this disease is not classified as particularly dangerous, so farmers should treat the animals themselves. Meanwhile, mange has already been observed in hundreds of cows and is spreading to other types of hoofed animals.

Local livestock farmers claim it is not profitable to slaughter such cattle ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. Moreover, animals with these types of lesions are unsuitable for slaughter.

In conclusion, Nurken Bayarov noted that the situation could have been avoided with timely preventive treatment of the livestock.

Earlier, in the Karabalyk district of the Kostanay region, a quarantine was declared after brucellosis was detected in several dozen animals. The regional veterinary department stated that the restrictive measures would last up to 20 days.
