The Prosecutor’s Office of Kostanay Region, together with law enforcement and authorised bodies, uncovered a corruption scheme in the procurement of medical equipment.
According to the press service of the department, medical organisations were purchasing unwanted equipment at inflated prices. The amount of damage caused to the state exceeded 2 billion tenge.
Based on the identified facts, the prosecutor's office registered criminal cases. As part of the pre-trial investigation, the former head and the current deputy head of the Healthcare Department of the Akimat of Kostanay Region, the chief doctor of one of the districts, as well as a supplier of medical equipment, were detained.
It will be recalled that in July, law enforcement agencies initiated a criminal investigation into embezzlement at LLP «SK-Pharmacy» and entities in the pharmaceutical industry. The case was opened following an appeal by Mazhilis deputies Bakytzhan Bazarbek and Murat Abenov to the General Prosecutor's Office regarding violations identified by the VAP.
In early November, a number of officials from the Ministry of Health and its subordinate organisations were brought to disciplinary responsibility following a state audit conducted by the Supreme Audit Chamber.
