In Kokshetau, repairs continue at Secondary School No. 9, which became problematic immediately after it was commissioned in 2023. According to local authorities, all work is scheduled to be completed by 1 September.
According to the Kazinform news agency, construction of the school complex began in 2016 and dragged on for seven years. After its opening, the former head teacher reported numerous defects: a leaking roof led to short-circuiting of the fire alarm system and electrics, classroom ceilings became damp, and furniture was damaged.
It has been reported that teachers had to seal gaps in the windows themselves. An additional problem was the septic tank, which filled with groundwater due to lack of connection to the main sewer.
Repairs are now being carried out by a new contractor — Aral-05 LLP. The metal roof tiles have been replaced, the mineral wool board has been removed, installation of ventilation ducting is being prepared, a cement screed is planned, and three boilers with pumps will also be replaced. The work is promised to be completed no later than 28 August.
For his part, the school head teacher, Zhanibek Nursharip, noted that legal proceedings are ongoing with the previous contractor. The cost savings from the roof repair — approximately 18 million tenge — are expected to be used to address the septic tank issue.
"I think there should be no issues in the new academic year. There will also be a two-year warranty period, so if problems arise again, the contractors will fix them themselves," shared the school head teacher.
To recall, in January, construction of a school in the village of Bulandy, Birzhan Sal district, Akmola region, was completed after nearly four years. It was noted that the cost of the 80-place institution rose from an initial 673 million to more than 1 billion tenge.
