KNB detained the head of the Aktau seaport

The National Security Committee (NSC) has announced the detention of the president of JSC «NK «Aktau International Sea Trade Port» Abay Turikpenbayev

According to Informburo.kz, a pre-trial investigation has been launched against him under Article 361 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (“Abuse of official power”). No further information has been disclosed.

Abay Turikpenbayev has held the position of head of the trade port since January 2017. The Aktau International Sea Trade Port is located on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea and holds a strategic position at the intersection of key international transport corridors.

The port facilitates the transit of dry cargo, crude oil, and petroleum products from east to west and from north to south towards Iran, Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
