Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov announced at an expanded government meeting that a possible location for the construction of a second nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan has been selected.
According to Vlast.kz, Bektenov noted that in the near future the authorities will conclude the necessary agreements for the construction of the first NPP in the Almaty region.
"Analysis of the regions to determine possible sites for the construction of a second NPP is being completed", the Prime Minister said.
At the same time, he spoke about the start of projects to build three thermal power plants in Kokshetau, Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk. Their phased commissioning is planned before 2032.
Recall that on 6 October 2024, a nationwide referendum was held on the construction of an NPP in Kazakhstan. A total of more than 7.8 million citizens took part in the vote. Of these, 5.5 million people voted for the construction of the NPP, and about 2 million voted against.
