Company Ookla, which owns the internet speed measurement service Speedtest, has published a report detailing the results of an analysis of the functional efficiency of Kazakhstan's mobile networks.
The report states that mobile internet speed in the country improved by 61%, reaching 35.07 Mbps in December 2023. As a result, Kazakhstan rose from 95th to 72nd place, overtaking its Central Asian neighbours.
The fastest 4G in the country was found in Almaty - 32.32 Mbps. Meanwhile, internet speeds in both Astana and Almaty outpace those in the capitals of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
In turn, in line with the goals set by the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry (MDDIAI), Kcell and Tele2 are ramping up the rollout of the 5G network. According to Speedtest Intelligence, half of Kazakhstan's citizens already have devices supporting 5G.
International experts also assessed the state programme 'Digital Kazakhstan', which they believe helps unite the efforts of business and government in achieving social and economic goals.
Recall that earlier, head of the MDDIAI, Bagdat Musin, made a sensational statement claiming that Astana had allegedly overtaken Tokyo in internet speed.
However, in the same Speedtest Global Index ranking for November 2023, Astana ranked 67th for mobile internet speed, while Tokyo ranked 55th. For broadband internet speed, Astana was in as low as 94th place, whereas Tokyo held 15th place.
