On the Karaganda highway, problems with road signs have been detected?

Submitted by Вера Александрова on

The editorial board of FRCB has received video material, allegedly filmed on the regional highway «Nura – Osakarovka» in the Karaganda region. The footage shows numerous violations in the maintenance of road signs and barriers: missing signs, incorrect installation of existing ones, and the presence of outdated signs along the route.

It is worth noting that problems with road infrastructure on the «Nura – Osakarovka» highway are not arising for the first time. In May 2024, it was reported that due to severe flooding, sinkholes had formed on the road near the culverts. At that time, the Department of Passenger Transport and Highways of the Karaganda Region promptly repaired the defects in the road surface.

However, during the repair work, the issue of updating road signs and barriers appears to have been overlooked. Although adverse weather conditions, including blizzards and snowstorms, may have affected the state of the road infrastructure, the main cause of the problem could be insufficient attention to the maintenance of road safety elements.

The editorial board of FRCB has sent an official request to the Department of Passenger Transport and Highways of the Karaganda Region, asking for a comment on the video footage.
