The specialised environmental prosecutor’s office of the West Kazakhstan region has fined the company ‘Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B. V.’ for polluting the environment in the region.
According to Forbes.kz, the inspection established that the oil and gas consortium had polluted the air and discharged waste into the environment. The volume of pollutants amounted to 264 tonnes.
The prosecutors issued a ruling to hold the company administratively liable under Article 328 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (‘Violation of standards for permissible anthropogenic impact on the environment’).
‘Fines totalling 739,568,808 tenge have been fully collected’, the agency noted.

Shares in the consortium are distributed as follows:
- ‘Royal Dutch Shell plc’ (Netherlands, United Kingdom) — 29.25%;
- ‘Eni’ (Italy) — 29.25%;
- ‘Chevron’ (USA) — 18%;
- ‘Lukoil’ (Russia) — 13.5%;
- ‘KazMunayGas’ (Kazakhstan) — 10%.
