Special prosecutors from the pre-trial investigation department of the Turkestan Regional Prosecutor's Office have completed the investigation into a murder committed 13 years ago.

CONTEXT

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, on 12 October 2012, in the Sairam District, six men attacked the victim and took him to a rented apartment in Shymkent. The case file does not specify the motive for the attack or the further circumstances of the incident.

CASE STATUS

The case has been sent to court, and the suspects are in custody.

PRECEDENTS FOR SOLVING OLD CRIMES

Similar cases are sometimes solved years later. For example, in Uralsk, a double murder committed in December 2000 was solved after 25 years. At the time, the crime remained unsolved due to a lack of direct evidence. As a result of operational and investigative measures, two suspects were detained — the alleged mastermind and the perpetrator. The victims were two local residents who died from gunshot wounds.

According to the head of the criminal investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Kanat Nurmagambetov, the investigative team managed to reconstruct the chain of events and identify the suspects. During the pre-trial investigation, additional evidence of their involvement was obtained. The criminal case was opened under Article 99 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Murder").

"According to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, no one has the right to arbitrarily deprive a person of life, and all are equal before the law and the court," the Turkestan Regional Prosecutor's Office reminds.
