Impressive rewards for top managers of national companies (part 2)

Submitted by Вера Александрова on

The FBRC editorial team continues its report on the total remuneration packages of executive bodies of companies that have a significant impact on Kazakhstan's economy.

Recently, we wrote about the oil and gas company JSC NC KazMunayGas. The largest fee for 8 board members was received in 2021 - over 575 million tenge

Today we will focus on the national atomic company JSC NAC Kazatomprom - the world's largest uranium producer. The national company develops 26 deposits, grouped into 14 uranium mining enterprises

In 2020, the executive body of Kazatomprom consisted of 9 people chaired by Galymzhan Pirmatov – the former head of the National Bank. The total remuneration that year amounted to over 1 billion tenge

In 2021, overall management passed to Mazhit Sharipov, who began working at Kazatomprom in 2015 as director of the nuclear fuel cycle projects department.

Previously, Mr Sharipov held the position of chairman of the atomic energy committee of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies.

The total fee for 16 members of the national company's executive body in 2021 amounted to around 896 million tenge

In 2022, Yerzhan Mukanov took over as chairman, having long held leadership positions in subsidiaries and associates of JSC NAC Kazatomprom - LLP SP KATKO, LLP Kazatomprom-SaUran, LLP Karatau, LLP Semizbay – U.

The executive body then consisted of 11 people, who, based on the results of 2022, collectively received over 760 million tenge

Currently, the position of Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NAC Kazatomprom is held by Meirzhan Yussupov. In 2020-2021, Mr Yussupov worked as Vice Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan

In 2023, 14 people on the national company's board received a total of more than 733 million tenge

Recall that in April of this year, the Anti-Corruption Service completed an investigation into the embezzlement of 862 million tenge during the modernisation of a uranium processing plant at the Karatau mine in the Turkestan region.

At the time, the former management of LLP Karatau - a subsidiary of JSC NAC Kazatomprom, the director of the contracting company LLP Iri building, as well as representatives of the architectural and technical supervision, fell under suspicion.

In 2022, the Anti-Corruption Service reported that the owner of LLP Iri building was a relative of Kairat Satybaldy – a certain B. Baiseitov. Incidentally, he is still wanted.

The investigation established that Baiseitov, using his family ties with Satybaldy, lobbied for the activities of the controlled company LLP Iri building.

Furthermore, in 2022, LLP Baiken-U - a subsidiary of JSC NAC Kazatomprom was at the centre of a scandal following the detention of the head of the procurement and business administration department, K. Kumarbek, in a case of fraud
