Last year, the FBRK editorial team asked where the profit earned by large Kazakhstani companies goes.

We gathered the total remuneration amounts for members of socio-entrepreneurial corporations (SEC). You can read about this via the link.

Today, our editorial team has again collected information on the total fees of the executive bodies of companies that have a significant impact on the economy of Kazakhstan.

In the first quarter of 2024, the oil and gas company JSC NC KazMunayGas received a net profit of 300 billion tenge, including profit from jointly controlled entities and associated companies. For comparison, in the first quarter of 2023, this amount was 287 billion tenge

In 2020, the company's executive body consisted of 7 people. The chairman at that time was Alik Aidarbayev

In 2009, Mr Aidarbayev became head of JSC Mangystaumunaigas, and later worked as managing director for exploration and production at JSC NC KazMunayGas

From 2013 to 2017, he held the position of akim of Mangystau Region, later chairing JSC NWF Samruk-Kazyna and JSC Samruk-Energy

The total remuneration of the board in 2020 amounted to around 318 million tenge

In 2021-2022, the board, consisting of 8 people, was chaired by Magzum Mirzagaliyev. The total fees amounted to over 575 million tenge in 2021 and around 345 million tenge in 2022.

It is worth noting that in 2007, at the age of 29, Mr Mirzagaliyev took the position of general director of TenizService LLP. Then, in 2010, he became managing director of JSC NC KazMunayGas

In 2013-2014, Magzum Mirzagaliyev held the position of Vice Minister of Oil and Gas, and later worked as Deputy Minister of Energy

From 2019 to 2021, he headed the Ministry of Ecology, and later returned to the Ministry of Energy to serve as head of the department. In 2022, he served for several months as Advisor to the President

In May 2024, Mr Mirzagaliyev left his post as chairman of the board of KazMunayGas. His place was taken by Askhat Khasenov – Deputy Minister of Energy.

We recall that in July it became known that the prosecutor's office of the Mangystau Region began an inspection of the activities of oil and gas sector enterprises. This list included a subsidiary of JSC NC KazMunayGas - Oil Transport Corporation LLP

On the fact of embezzlement of funds, the head of the production and technical department and two representatives of contractor organisations were detained.

Earlier, in April of this year, information emerged that the Russian company Lukoil paid JSC NC KazMunayGas $200 million for the purchase of a 50% stake in Kalamkas-Khazar Operating LLP, which is engaged in hydrocarbon production in the Caspian Sea.

It was reported that the former subsidiary of KazMunayGas retained investments estimated at more than 93 billion tenge
