Illegal iron ore mining has been identified in the Karaganda region

In the Karaganda Region, prosecutors have shut down a company which, according to the investigation, had been mining minerals without permits for several years. This concerns iron ore, which was then exported outside the country. According to the supervisory authority, the damage to the state amounts to billions of tenge.

WHAT THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE FOUND

As reported by the Specialised Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Karaganda Region, the violations were identified during supervisory activities.

According to the agency, one company in the district had been mining iron ore without a licence for 4 years. The extracted raw materials were exported abroad.

INVESTIGATION AND PROCEDURAL MEASURES

Based on the identified facts, special prosecutors conducted a pre-trial investigation.

The investigation believes that the illegal activity caused damage to the state of more than 2 billion tenge.

Three suspects have been taken into custody. Property worth more than 500 million tenge has also been seized.

The criminal case has been sent to court.
