After the death of Bolat Nazarbayev, brother of former president Nursultan Nazarbayev, the question of whether a will existed remained open for a long time. It was assumed that the numerous assets — from elite real estate to commercial companies and land plots — would be divided among the heirs according to the law.
However, as lawyer Dmitry Sazonov reported in an interview with ORDA, a will did in fact exist, and the sole heir under it was Bolat's eldest son — Nurbol Nazarbayev.
Despite the formal existence of one heir, other relatives also received a portion of the property. It is reported that one of Bolat Nazarbayev's houses was legally divided into 38 shares: Nurbol received 25 of them, while the remaining 13 shares were distributed among relatives.
Which specific house was divided has not yet been established. However, journalists suggest the following possible options:
- House No. 1 — Gornaya Street, Almaty. An estate with a football pitch, greenhouses, and a huge mansion.
- House No. 2 — Ondasynova Street, Almaty. Architecturally resembles a palace, surrounded by forest.
- House No. 3 — Shamalgan village, Karasai district, Almaty region. A two-storey mansion at the foot of the mountains with additional outbuildings.
- House No. 4 — Another estate in Shamalgan.
Journalists also report that under the will, Nurbol Nazarbayev inherited real estate in Almaty, including an apartment in the BNC Plaza complex. It is noted that BNC Plaza has long belonged to Nurbol Nazarbayev through the company PrimeCapital Re Plaza LLP, which was transferred to him while his father was still alive.
For context, it was previously reported that after the death of Bolat Nazarbayev, members of his family filed claims regarding inheritance rights. It was noted that the claimants sought both shares of jointly acquired property and mandatory inheritance shares under the law.
Applications for a certificate of inheritance rights under the will were submitted by Nurbol Nazarbayev and the deceased's spouse — Dinara Nazarbayeva, who is claiming half of the share of property acquired during the marriage. Thirteen children of Bolat Nazarbayev also applied for mandatory inheritance shares under the law.
