In China, a court has sentenced the former head of the Chinese Football Association (CFA) Chen Xuyuan to life imprisonment for corruption. While holding various leadership positions, he took bribes amounting to more than $11 million between 2010 and 2023.

According to ‘The Guardian’ citing Chinese media, Chen Xuyuan was convicted for using his official powers, including within the CFA, to help others secure contracts for project implementation and the organisation of sporting events.
For this, the former head of the football association received money and valuables worth nearly 81 million yuan ($11 million).
In addition to Chen Xuyuan, other individuals also received prison sentences in the corruption case. Former CFA Deputy Secretary General Cheng Yunlian was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Former CFA Vice President Yu Hongcheng received 13 years in jail. Former Chinese Super League General Manager Dong Zheng was sentenced to 8 years.
