In the town of Kosshy, a new rehabilitation centre for children with disabilities is under threat of closure. The facility, which began operating just two months ago, has encountered financial difficulties due to an error in the allocation of budget funds.

According to the Telegram channel «HALYQSTAN», staff and parents reported that the centre’s funding was allocated under the wrong budget line, making it impossible to sign a contract under the state procurement scheme. As a result, debts have accrued for rent, food, and wages.

“The centre has been operating for two months, with more than 30 children attending. The team is made up of experienced specialists who love their work. But to date, no state funding contract has been signed. We are in debt for rent, outsourcing, and wages. The outsourcing company has been feeding our children for free for the second month now,” reads an appeal to the Akim of Akmola Region, Marat Akhmetzhanov.

It is noted that if the situation is not resolved, the centre will be forced to suspend operations from Monday.

Parents and specialists are asking the regional authorities to intervene and prevent the closure of the centre, which has become the only place for dozens of families where children receive rehabilitation and remedial support.

The situation with the centre for disabled children is not the only issue residents of Kosshy are complaining about.

Earlier, it was reported that local residents are facing frequent power supply interruptions. According to the Department of Energy and Housing and Public Utilities of Akmola Region, the problem is linked to the fact that when the town’s electrical networks were commissioned, they were neither transferred to state ownership nor to the guaranteed supplier — AREC (Akmola Regional Electricity Distribution Company).
