The former company of businessman Kairat Boranbayev, AsiaGaz Chunja LLP, has become a subsidiary of NC QazaqGaz JSC.

"The company AsiaGaz Chunja, which the son-in-law of the daughter of the country's first president, Dariga Nazarbayeva, Kairat Boranbayev, gifted to the state property committee in October 2023 while under investigation, and which was then transferred to the Samruk-Kazyna Fund in September 2024, has changed owner again. As of 12 November, it is a 100% subsidiary of the national company QazaqGaz", reports the Telegram channel "Oil and Gas of Kazakhstan".

It should be noted that the intention of QazaqGaz's sole shareholder, Samruk-Kazyna JSC, to bring forward for consideration the issue of acquiring a 100% stake in the charter capital of AsiaGaz Chunja LLP, was reported back in August.

Recall that in March last year, Boranbayev, his business partner Roman Nakhanov, and former deputy chairman of the board of QazaqGaz, Taiyr Zhanuzak, were sentenced to 8 years' imprisonment for the embezzlement of funds on an especially large scale in the quasi-public sector.

The sentence was later overturned because Boranbayev entered into a plea deal with the investigation. At the same time, information emerged in the media that in June last year he had compensated for the material damage amounting to 14.5 billion tenge.

Furthermore, it was reported that Kairat Boranbayev had voluntarily returned assets worth over 90 billion tenge to state ownership and transferred 30 billion tenge to the Education Infrastructure Support Fund.

Soon after, Boranbayev pleaded guilty, agreeing to a plea agreement with the prosecutor, after which his sentence was reduced to 6 years' imprisonment with confiscation of property.

As part of his voluntary cooperation with the investigation, he transferred to the state the oil and gas field "Northern Karazhanbas" with an estimated value of 35.4 billion tenge, KazTurboRemont Service Centre LLP, worth over 9 billion tenge, AsiaGazChunja LLP worth 14 billion tenge, and much else.

Later, the court granted the businessman's petition and commuted the unserved portion of his sentence to restriction of liberty.

In November 2023, Boranbayev was released from the penal colony. In May of this year, Deputy Chairman of the Financial Monitoring Agency, Zhenis Yelemesov, told journalists that Mr Boranbayev had already returned 134.5 billion tenge to the state.
