Submitted by Вера Александрова on

The First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar ordered the forced evacuation of residents from the outskirts of Petropavlovsk.

According to the government press service, the akim of Petropavlovsk, Serik Mukhamediyev, reported to Roman Sklyar that 32 residents of the village of Zarechny and the dacha areas were unwilling to evacuate from the flood zone.

According to him, the citizens stated they would cope with the flood on their own. Following this, the First Deputy Prime Minister gave the order for a forced evacuation.

"I am instructing the akimat, the police department, and the emergency situations department to begin the forced evacuation of the population. The safety of the people must be ensured. No one should come to harm. When such a flood catches people off guard, it is terrifying. People must not knowingly put themselves at risk; this is unacceptable", he said.

It was also reported that Sklyar inspected the fortifications on the bypass road in the Podgora area, examined the condition of the dams in the village of Kozhevenny and on Ushcheva Street.

"During the inspection, Roman Sklyar ordered that surveyors be called to all dams to check the fortifications following the updated forecast of rising water. He also authorised the staff of the akimat, the rescue service, and the police to provide every possible assistance in evacuating citizens, household appliances, pets, and livestock from the high-risk flood zone", the statement reads.
