Kazakhstan is flooding again. Information about flooded yards in cities and villages is coming in from across the country every hour.
Let's start with the tragic incident that occurred in the village of Yebeyty in the Aktobe Region. There, two children were playing near a spot where meltwater had gathered. One of them fell into the water, drowned, and died.
Residents of the Temir District in the Aktobe Region are posting videos showing meltwater flooding streets and houses. Residents complain that they have been left alone to face the elements and have to fight the flood themselves.
In Kokshetau, meltwater has flooded School No. 22. Due to the lack of sealing around the electrical conduit openings, the water level in the school's basement rose almost to knee height.
In Uralsk, due to melting snow and heavy rain, huge puddles have formed not only on the outskirts of the city but also in the centre. Meltwater is flooding many yards and basements of private houses and apartment blocks.
Moreover, even the city akimat building has been flooded. The ground floor, which houses the land relations department, ended up underwater.
At the same time, it is reported that Uralsk will be completely cut off from the water supply until the evening due to the large volume of meltwater entering the sewer system. This is linked to the flooding of the sewer pumps. A state of emergency has also been declared in the city.
Street flooding has also not spared Karaganda. City residents are posting videos showing cars with their wheels submerged in water.
Out of frustration with the powerlessness and inaction of local authorities, residents of the village of Koyandy in the Akmola Region even blocked the highway "Astana – Pavlodar". In this way, they tried to draw attention to the flood problem. The district akim and the head of the regional emergency situations department came out to address them. Later, the people dispersed.
The village of Amangeldy in the Kostanay Region is completely submerged in water. Villagers report that water is already entering homes, and local authorities are struggling to cope with the flood. The first victims of the flooding in the village were lambs. Some residents are saving their livestock by transporting them out on trucks.
In the city of Ayagoz in the Abay Region, there was an overflow of water from the channel of the Ayagoz River. As a result, several household plots were flooded.
At the same time, it is reported that there are unconfirmed casualties in connection with the river overflow. A man on horseback was heading to the agricultural enterprise "Shygys", but fell in while crossing the river and went under the water. Two men on a tractor went missing while crossing the Borly River.
Search and rescue operations are currently underway. This is just some of the information about the flooded regions of Kazakhstan. The real picture of the flood situation in the country is much larger.
