A sewer collector exploded in Petropavlovsk. Five workers from the emergency team of Kyzykzhar Su LLP were injured.
According to the publication 7152.kz, the injured were hospitalised in the multi-field city hospital with thermal burns. Doctors assess their condition as moderate severity.
The police department of the North Kazakhstan Region has opened a criminal case regarding the explosion.
"On the evening of 19 February, during the dismantling of an old pipe in the sewer collector in the courtyard of a house on Zhukov Street in Petropavlovsk, according to preliminary data, an explosion of a gas-air mixture occurred. As a result, five workers from the emergency team were injured," the statement says.
According to preliminary data, the explosion occurred while work was being carried out with a gas welding apparatus.
"The ambulance team that arrived on call found five injured people at the scene, the oldest of whom is 58 and the youngest 29. One man was diagnosed with a broken ankle, the others received thermal burns," the statement says.
