Residents of several more villages in the Kyzylzhar district of the North Kazakhstan region may be evacuated due to flooding.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, appropriate facilities have already been prepared.

"To prevent the threat of flooding of residential buildings due to rising water levels in the Esil River in the villages of Teplichnoye, Zarechnoye, Olshanka and Bolshaya Malyshka in the Kyzylzhar district of the North Kazakhstan region, work is underway to strengthen the protective embankment," the statement said.

A total of 1,087 people and 126 units of equipment are involved. Over the past 24 hours, rescuers have prepared and laid 4,000 sandbags, and a total of 110,980.

In addition, water pumping work is being carried out in the village of Zarechnoye. Over the past 24 hours, 1,500 cubic metres of water have been pumped out, with a total of 79,200 cubic metres pumped so far.

At the same time, work is underway to monitor the flood situation in the villages of Vagulino and Sokolovka in the Kyzylzhar district.

Earlier, due to the floods, authorities made a decision to relocate residents of the Zarechny settlement to safe areas. At the same time, the akim of the North Kazakhstan region, Gauyes Nurmukhambetov, reported that this year's flood in the region is occurring in three waves. Meanwhile, the peak of the flood in Petropavlovsk is expected on 28–30 April.

Recall that in February 2025, the Tasqyn flood forecasting system was put into operation. The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation promised that the first forecasts would appear in early March, but, as practice has shown, even these vague predictions did not help prevent the numerous floodings that have occurred in various regions of the country.

Reality contradicts the ministry's optimistic reports: serious flooding continues in several regions at once (North Kazakhstan, Aktobe, Kostanay, Akmola, East Kazakhstan regions), roads have been washed away, populated areas are flooded, and transport links have been disrupted. Entire villages have been cut off, while the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, claims the "effectiveness" of the Tasqyn flood forecasting system.
